Committee News & A Call for Volunteers

It's been an exciting few months on the Shamrokon committee and as August approaches we'd like to make a few announcements.
First off, we'd like to announce that Brian Nisbet has changed roles to become Co-Chair of Shamrokon, joining James at the helm! Before Christmas James felt that there were (and will be) a lot of critical things that need to happen before the con, and that there were aspects of the chair role with which he could use some assistance.
With that in mind, he asked Brian to step forward and he agreed. Brian has chaired Leprecons, Gaelcon, K2, Discworld Conventions, and has run many professional events, and James and Brian compliment each other in terms of skills and experience. The committee has been working under this new structure since December and it seems to be going very well!
In addition to this a number of new people have come onboard to help with the con:
Pat Maher - Staff
Cat O'Sullivan - Hotel & Registration
Janet O'Sullivan - PR & Promotions
Jon O'Sullivan - Ops
Paul Sheridan - Art Show
Brian J Showers - Dealers
However we're still in need of some more talented and enthusiastic individuals to help us in August. The roles we're looking to fill are:
Head of Programme:
Brian Nisbet is currently acting as a caretaker for this role, but with his move to be Co-Chair, we're looking for someone to take over on a full time basis. The position involves working with a small team to create an exciting programme for Shamrokon; liaising with those people who've volunteered for the programme; finding suitable panelists etc. for items; working closely with Tech on room layouts & equipment and making sure everything runs well on the weekend!
Guest Liaison & Social Events Coordinator:
Over the weekend we'll need someone to look after our Guests of Honour and to coordinate some of our evening events. This may become two roles, but right now we're looking for one person to start planning things and talking to our lovely guests about their wishes!
Merchandise & Sponsorship:
We're hoping to have lots of lovely things for people to buy both before and at the con. We need someone imaginative to come up with great ideas, put a budget together and oversee the production of a range of Shamrokon merchandise. This role will also involve working with the Chairs and Promotions to obtain additional sponsorship for the con.
If you're interested in any of these roles, please email and let us know which role you think you can fill and what relevant experience you have.
