Early Programme News!

While lots of work has been going on with the early drafts of the Shamrokon Programme, there's still a lot of work to be done, but you can read some early news on the Programme Page! We'll have discussion panels, workshops, readings, interviews, theatre, awards and, importantly, we hope there'll be something of interest to everyone. There's also still time to volunteer to participate, which you can do by filling out this form

If you're a filmmaker and you'd prefer your work to speak for you, you can also enter the Golden Blasters, which will be judged and awarded at Shamrokon!

St Patrick's Weekend Special Offer.

Make sure you check out our special membership promotion for St Patrick's Weekend, an art card featuring Jim Fitzpatrick's artwork. The first one hundred people who sign up as full members (ie not Supporting) will receive a signed card at the con. All Art cards are of a limited edition and numbered run. Committee News & A Call for Volunteers

It's been an exciting few months on the Shamrokon committee and as August approaches we'd like to make a few announcements.
 
First off, we'd like to announce that Brian Nisbet has changed roles to become Co-Chair of Shamrokon, joining James at the helm! Before Christmas James felt that there were (and will be) a lot of critical things that need to happen before the con, and that there were aspects of the chair role with which he could use some assistance.
 

Accommodation Update

Wow things have been really busy the last few weeks, so much so we have to announce that our block booking with The Double Tree by Hilton on the Burlington road is full. We are  in negotiations to expand the booking as we know many people prefer to stay in the hotel the convention is in.

Hope you are all doing well after the start of the new year and are keeping warm. With the surge in bookings for Hotel rooms for the Double Tree by Hilton, we just wanted to highlight some of the other hotel options which are now covered by the same improved booking policy.

Update to Hotel Booking Cancellation Policy

Hello everyone,

There has been some consternation over the last few weeks regarding Shamrokon hotel rooms, and the cancellation terms which many regarded as too restrictive. When arranging a block booking, there will always be a balance between price and flexibility, and in negotiating a great price for our members, we didn't pay enough attention to the policy for those who need to cancel their booking.

Recognising the difficulty this causes for our members, we have renegotiated the terms with the hotel and our booking agent, who have both been extremely accommodating and helpful in this process.

Accommodation news

Shamrokon is very happy to announce that our Accommodation Booking System is now open! We have partnered with Keynote PCO, a group-booking facilitator, to organise special reduced rates for Shamrokon members like yourself.

We’ve got great rates with the convention hotel, Doubletree by Hilton, of €95.00 per room for a person on their own and €115.00 per room for two people sharing. This price is inclusive of breakfast, taxes, and free WiFi.

Chair's Blog: One Year to Go

Today Shamrokon is one year away, which is both exciting and terrifying!

Back from the pastExciting, because we're in pretty good shape. We've got most things well underway. The membership list is already long and it’s getting longer day by day. We've got a great list of guests (with a new one who'll be announced at Worldcon). And most importantly, we've got a great team working on the convention.

It's May 2011, and I'm in Sweden with Gareth from Ireland, and Nodis, who is German but has been living in Ireland. We're here for Eurocon, and the Swedes have put together a pretty excellent convention.
